The Poetry of Brian Langley
Was just a butt I tossed away.
I know I’ve often heard you say,
“That’s all it needs, one tiny spark,
To start a fire, to burn a park.”
But I just didn’t think that far;
I flicked that butt out from the car
And drove away quite unaware
That single butt lay smould’ring there.
A seed, that in a few short hours
Had grown to massive flaming flowers,
Consuming all, as on it grew
Livestock, trees and houses too.
Destruction, total in its wake.
I find it’s just too much to take.
I can’t believe I caused today.
Was just a butt - I threw away.
